About me

Sabrina Starke is an award-winning singer-songwriter, producer and holistic creative entrepreneur living in Rotterdam.

She has won prestigious awards for her soulful music, including two Edison Awards (Best Newcomer of 2009 & The Edison Jazzism People's Choice) and two Radio 6 Awards (Best Album 2013 & Best Song 2015). In 15 years, Sabrina has released a large number of singles from her 6 albums.

In 2008, her now platinum debut album “Yellow Brick Road” was released, which contained the hit single “Do for Love”. That album was released on the legendary American jazz record label 'Blue Note'.

Numerous performances at home and abroad and at jazz festivals soon followed. She collaborated with the world-famous Metropole Orchestra on an album called 'Lean on me, the songs of Bill Withers'. It was produced by Grammy award-winning music arranger and composer Vince Mendoza.

She also toured with 'The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw' led by Dennis Mackrel' to share the story and music of her greatest source of inspiration 'Nina Simone'. After a successful tour in the Netherlands, they expanded to Italy, China and other countries in Europe.

All her albums are rooted in soul, hip-hop, folk and blues and she invites the listener to look closer at the layers of their own lives. Self-awareness, identity and personal growth, love and the inner world are themes and the common thread within her songs.

"In 2014, she won the Dutch TV show ‘Beste Zangers van Nederland,’ impressing audiences with her soulful renditions of a variety of popular songs."

In 2017 her song 'Rosy Coloured Glasses' was featured in the FOX series 'Shots Fired. The song pleads for peace, love and the preservation of innocence. It was the perfect depiction of the powerful narrative of the series.

2018 marked a special point in her career as she celebrated her 10th year anniversary as a recording artist with a new album 'Underneath the Surface' and she was a guest curator at 'TENT' Rotterdam. Where she created a special group exhibition and cross-disciplinary public program around the multiple dimensions of identity: Who do you think you are?

In January 2022 she won the Sublime Award for best album 2022 for her most recent album 'Our time our music'.

Her 7th album 'Weather the Storm' will be released on November 22th 2024.

In addition to her music, Sabrina Starke is active as a nutritional therapist & trainer/coach. Founder of ART=MIND, a holistic self-awareness and mindfulness program for creative artists. And co-founder of Diaspora Wellhouse, a holistic wellness organization focused on the well-being of people from the African Diaspora.

She navigates actively and inspired within the creative and social world. And she will continue to contribute to a world where self-awareness, love and connection are central.

"I'm not only flattered. I am impressed. Thank you Sabrina for lending your wonderful voice to these songs. You are gifted an a gift to the world"
